SACRAMENTO — A registered sex offender was arrested at a Sacramento Starbucks after allegedly displaying child porn on a computer screen.

Police received a call from a patron who said the man’s behavior was disturbing him.

“(He) said that there was a subject in there that was looking at child porn on his computer,” Sacramento police Lt. Tom Sweeney said.

Officers brought 47-year-old Louis Mendonsa outside and began to question him, quickly discovering he was a registered sex offender.

According to police, Mendonsa has two previous felony convictions for lewd and lascivious acts on a child 14 or 15 years of age and for lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14 years old.

“From what the witness told us,” Sweeney said, “it seemed that he was trying to use the imagery on the computer to get his attention and then maybe strike up a conversation or something of that nature.”

Officers searched Mendonsa and went through belongings he was carrying inside a backpack.

Detectives will search his computer on Tuesday, “to find out if the imagery on the computer is actually child pornography,” Sweeney said.

The victim said he tried to move several times, but that Mendonsa kept following him around the store, and kept trying to show him pictures on his computer screen, until he finally decided to call police.

“We’re not out there to police publications that are legally sold, but if somebody thinks it’s child pornography, that needs to be looked into,” Sweeney said.
