QC cops kill 3 suspects in computer shop heist

MANILA, Philippines – Three of four men were slain when they shot it out with policemen who checked on a computer shop they had just robbed in Novaliches, Quezon City Monday night.

Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr., commander of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 4, said the armed men ran from the shop carrying their loot, which included an LCD computer monitor.

“They (suspects) even left behind their motorcycle and decided to flee on foot when they saw the patrol car from the direction where their motorcycle was parked,” Pedrozo said in an interview.

The slain suspects would have carted away a total of P31,810 in cash and valuables – including computer accessories and several cell phones of the customers at the shop – had they not encountered the police patrol team.

Pedrozo said slain suspect Gilbert Lacoste of Project 6, Quezon City was identified through his driver’s license while two of his slain companions remain unidentified. A fourth suspect managed to flee on another motorcycle at the heist of the gunbattle at past 9 p.m. along Quirino Highway in Barangay San Bartolome.

Following the shootout, policemen recovered from the slain suspects a .45 caliber pistol, two .38 caliber revolvers and an icepick.
