$750,000

The cost of a new fire truck for the Appleton Fire Department. Fire Chief Len Vander Wyst outlined major expenses for the next few years in a memo to the city’s Safety and Licensing Committee last week. Among those big-ticket items is a new fire truck in 2016 for the northeast section of the city. Purchases slotted for this year include: a new fire hose, at $30,000, and a radio system upgrade, costing $280,000, though a regional grant will cover more than half of the cost. Next year, the firefighters’ “self contained breathing apparatus” — their air packs — will be replaced, with the expense budgeted at $527,900.
