Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) has announced four new solutions to help users store and protect their growing digital life – the 4 TB Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 and 5K4000 hard drives, and the 4 TB Hitachi Touro Desk and 1 TB Hitachi Touro Mobile external hard drives.

4 TB Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 and 5K400 Hard Drives

Hitachi has introduced two new 4 TB hard drives for upgrading one’s computer – the Deskstar 7K4000 drive, providing ultra-fast performance with 7,200 RPM and a 64 MB cache buffer, and the Deskstar 5K4000 drive with CoolSpin technology and a 32 MB cache buffer, which delivers a greater level of power efficiency and quiet operation for energy-conscious, environmentally-friendly computers.

Each drive comes with a software download that allows 32- and 64-bit Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X and Linux systems to tap into the full capacity and power of the 4 TB drive, as one big massive data drive, without having to install extra hardware. In addition to providing 33% more capacity when compared to current 3 TB drives, the Deskstar 7K4000 and the Deskstar 5K4000 drives boast a 6 Gbps SATA interface for faster data transfer rates.

The new 4 TB Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 drive is currently shipping with an MSRP of $389.99. The 4 TB Hitachi Deskstar 5K4000 drive will be shipping in the second quarter of 2012 with an MSRP of $369.99.

Placed vertically or horizontally, or even stacked, Hitachi said the Touro Desk external drive fits perfectly into any home or office environment. Featuring a smooth black, textured body for solid good looks, the Hitachi Touro Desk external drive provides easy add-on storage for all one’s photos, movies, music and documents. Offering colossal storage capacity, it can store hours and hours of high-definition video, thousands of movies, songs and photos, and tons of video games with room to spare.

Housing a Deskstar 5K4000 hard drive, the new 4 TB Hitachi Touro Desk external drive provides plug and play simplicity and a fast USB 3.0 interface with all the quality and reliability you expect from Hitachi. Both Mac and PC compatible, the Hitachi Touro Desk external drive now comes in 4 TB, 3 TB, 2 TB and 1 TB capacities. The 4 TB Hitachi Touro Desk external drive is now shipping with an MSRP of $299.99.

1 TB Hitachi Touro Mobile USB 3.0 External Drive
Designed with the mobile consumer in mind, the elegant and portable 1TB Hitachi Touro Mobile external drive is the latest addition to the Hitachi product family. With a durable design and weighing in at 5.4 ounces, the Hitachi Touro Mobile drive can be stowed and transported easily in a purse, backpack or briefcase. Since it is USB 3.0 bus-powered, there’s no need to carry around an extra power cord. Wrapped up in its sleek enclosure is the new, rugged Hitachi Travelstar 5K1000 hard drive.

The Travelstar 5K1000 is the first 1 TB 2.5-inch drive with a 6 Gbps SATA interface and delivers the highest 2.5-inch 5,400 RPM performance in both PCMark Vantage and PCMark7 testing. The Hitachi Touro Mobile external drive is Mac and PC compatible and comes in 1 TB, 750 GB and 500 GB capacities.
