Cops kill 3 computer shop robbers

MANILA, Philippines – Three of four alleged robbers were slain in an encounter with policemen who checked on them as they were fleeing from a computer shop they had just victimized on Monday night in Novaliches, Quezon City.

Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr. , commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 4, said the armed men shot it out with the policemen as they fled carrying their loot, including a considerably heavy LCD computer monitor.

“They (suspects) even left behind their motorcycle and decided to flee on foot when they saw the patrol car from the direction where their motorcycle was parked,” Pedrozo said in an interview.

The slain suspects would have carted away P31,810-worth of cash and valuables had they not been chanced upon by the patrolling policemen.

These items included computer accessories and several cellular phones of customers at the shop.

Pedrozo said the three slain suspects remained unidentified while one of them managed to flee on a motorcycle at the height of the gun battle past 9 p.m. along Quirino Highway in Barangay San Bartolome.

According to Pedrozo, the four armed suspects barged into the shop and divested the items from several victims at gunpoint. At that time, there were 14 people inside the shop, including students.

After the heist, the fourth suspect hurriedly boarded their second motorcycle and left his companions behind.

Pedrozo said there was a commotion as the suspects went out and this was noticed by the patrolling policemen, prompting them to check on the three others left behind.

As the policemen were approaching the shop, the suspects allegedly fired at them igniting a shootout.

Police recovered from the suspects a caliber .45 pistol, two caliber .38 revolvers and an ice pick.
