Computer repair leads to child pornography arrest – Herald

HUNTINGTON — A trip to a local electronics store has landed a Huntington man behind bars, according to jail and court records.

West Virginia State Police arrested Scott Michael Wedo, 50, on Tuesday charging him with six counts of felony distributing and exhibiting material that depicts minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He was jailed on a $150,000 bond.

Criminal complaints state an area electronics store tipped off police to the case. The documents indicate Wedo had taken in his laptop computer for repairs due to a possible virus. The technician discovered files with suspected child pornography and called police.

State troopers seized the laptop and conducted a review of its hard drive, according to the criminal complaint. That investigation found five photographs depicting girls, along with a video clip depicting both boys and girls with adult men and women.

The complaint states one of the investigators identified the video and some of the images as being ones noticed in prior investigations.
